Summary

With over 25 years’ experience in autopsy practise, 10 of those post-admission to the Home Office register, Dr Simon Poole is a forensic pathologist and authority in cases of homicide and suspicious deaths and those involving lesser charges of non-fatal injury, such as those which require the causation of injuries to be determined.

 

Simon is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. He was admitted to the Home Office register of forensic pathologists in 2007. Prior to that he practised general pathology for fourteen years, and conducted coronial autopsies during that period. 

 

Dr Poole offers opinions, at the request of counsel (defence and prosecution) in cases of fatal and non-fatal injury. He participates in the continuing professional development scheme organised by the Royal College of Pathologists.

 

Simon regularly gives expert witness evidence in various courts (Crown, Coroner’s and Magistrate’s).

  • Highly experienced in autopsy pathology having conducted hundreds of post-mortems per annum during a career currently spanning more than 25 years.

Committee Memberships

  • Simon holds the following qualifications: Bachelor of Science (First-class Honours), Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, and the Diploma in Medical Jurisprudence in Pathology.

  • He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and was admitted to the Home Office register of forensic pathologists in 2007. 

  • He holds dual specialist registration with the Postgraduate Medical Education Training Board.

  • Simon is also a member of the British Association for Ophthalmic Pathology and a foundation member of the Faculty of Forensic & Legal Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of London. He has co-authored publications on experimental, diagnostic and forensic pathology.
